Campers learn about building energy flow and how to use energy flow principles to design, build, and test a one-room, energy-sustainable building using classroom materials. From understanding energy-efficient designs to exploring renewable materials, campers will delve into the fascinating realm of green building practices.

Young eco-builders turn visions of a greener future into reality. From sustainable design concepts to constructing eco-friendly prototypes, this camp is for environmentally conscious youth making a positive impact on the world.

Camp Activities

This camp discusses resilience – exploring a community’s ability to withstand shocks like floods and droughts and nurture a healthy natural environment; efficiency - ensuring buildings and facilities are energy and water-efficient, and using other natural resources sustainably; eco-awareness - helping city administrators operate with sustainability in mind through policy, procurement, and everyday practice; and inspiration - inspiring the next generation of eco-leaders through fun and engaging educational youth programs.

This camp will explore a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building strategies for all building types and communities where people live, work, learn, and play. Green buildings (and green camps) allow us to live and work more sustainably in ways we can all experience — in our health, the air we breathe, and the water we drink. Planning for and living green can offer us a better quality of life, while also lowering global carbon emissions, reducing electricity and water bills, and creating new green jobs.

Activities include:

  • Investigate and test electrical, light, and thermal energy systems.
  • Use a simulation to make building design choices such as size, shape, window placement, and color of your building.
  • Build and evaluate your building within the simulation and in our classroom for energy sustainability measures.
