Uncover the Secrets of Symmetry and Atomic Structures!

From growing your own rock candy to crafting single crystals of quantum materials, prepare to be amazed by the power of science! Dive into the periodic table, decode crystal structures, and discover the hidden beauty of atomic symmetry. Get ready to see the world in a whole new light!

Space is Limited! Early registration is recommended. Campers will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis, based upon date of registration and when payment is received. Waiting lists will be maintained and filled in the order that they were received should cancellations occur.

Eligibility: Rising 8th-12th graders
Capacity: 9 students
Registration Fee: $50.00 (includes all camp materials)

Do not send registration fee with your application. Registration will only need to be paid if you are accepted into one of the camps.

The application requires that you answer the following questions:

  1. Why are you interested in this camp and what are you hoping to learn?
  2. What are your career plans after high school?
  3. What is your favorite physics phenomenon?
  4. If you could improve our world, what technological change would you make?

Acceptance Notification
Notifications of acceptance will be sent to the email address provided in application, with applications being reviewed after March 1, 2024. Acceptance will be sent no later than May 1st. Be sure to use an email address that is regularly checked. Accepted applicants must then submit registration and payment online to reserve spot, online payment link will be provided with your acceptance notification.

Your acceptance is considered complete only when registration fee is received. Spots that have not been confirmed with payment will be considered incomplete and offered to other wait-listed applicants.

Camp activities: 

  • It’s hot, don’t touch (lab safety discussion) 
  • Turning a syrup into beautiful crystals (growth of sugar crystals, i.e., rock candy) 
  • Turning gray into shiny (growth of single crystal of quantum material) 
  • Do you know how to swim? (diving into the periodic table) 
  • Do these snowflakes look different? (crystal structures and points symmetry) 
  • Lucky clover (finding point symmetry elements in everyday objects) 
  • What do these crazy scientists do? (tour working physics labs) 

and more fun activities! 

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. If you are having challenges arranging transportation, please contact the STEM Center for additional assistance.

All camps will have a $50 non-refundable fee. Persons wishing to cancel their registration must do so two weeks (14 full days) prior to the first day of their chosen program. No refunds will be made after this date.

Missouri S&T reserves the right to cancel any program in the event of insufficient registrations, severe weather or natural disaster. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified immediately via email and phone, and all fees will be returned in full.
