Did you know that MUSIC is an integral part of STEM? It’s true! Music students develop enhanced spatial-temporal skills, priming them for STEM careers requiring advanced problem-solving skills.
The arts can also directly inspire scientific queries and allow STEM students to hone skills such as creativity, perseverance, and dexterity. The Sound of Miners Orchestra Camp gives musically-inclined students, who intend to major in a STEM field, the opportunity to rehearse and perform orchestra music on a university campus, while experiencing all that S&T has to offer!
Campers will participate in daily rehearsals with Kyle Wernke (Director of Orchestras at Missouri S&T and American Prize-winning composer) and will hone their skills in more focused sectionals with incredible performers. Campers will then prepare a rich musical program for a community performance in S&T’s Leach Theatre at the conclusion of camp. In addition to rehearsals, campers will have the opportunity to explore campus, interact with current students, and discover that, at S&T, they can have their STEM and music, too!
