Unravel the Mysteries of Viruses and Epidemics!

A mysterious disease has been reported, and we need your help to solve this outbreak investigation! Dive deep into the fascinating world of viruses as you engage in hands-on activities, simulations, and experiments designed to understand their behavior, transmission, and the critical role of public health in combating infectious diseases.

From deciphering the genetic code of viruses to exploring the dynamics of outbreaks, you'll develop a comprehensive understanding of viral science and epidemiology like never before!

This camp will tackle a big problem through the lens of young, STEM-interested minds. Campers will learn what viruses and vaccines are and how they can better protect themselves and their communities from viral pandemics. Campers will also participate in interactive activities to explore possibilities for containing a spreading disease, which allows each camper to put themself into the shoes of a scientist, where they might just find that containing contagions is not always an exact science.

Join us for an unforgettable summer where young detectives will become champions in the fight against viral threats, equipping them with knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in the world of epidemiology.

Camp Activities include:

  •         Create and build representations of viruses and vaccines.
  •         Design ways to protect yourselves and your communities from viral pandemics.
  •         Use microscopes to explore the unseen world.
  •         Run computer simulations to track an outbreak.
  •         Work in teams to stop a virtual pandemic.
  •         Put yourself in the shoes of a scientist working to stop an emerging new disease.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. USA Express provides shuttle service from St. Louis Lambert Airport to Rolla. You can contact USA Express by calling 1-800-872-9399 or visiting their website at https://www.usaxonline.com/.
