Camp activities:

  • Understanding Life: Begin by exploring the question—what is life? Learn how scientists identify signs of life, and study resilient organisms like worms and microbes that could inspire the search for life in space.
  • Soil Sample Analysis & Life Detection: Dive into the lab to investigate soil samples, identify tiny Earth organisms, and learn the techniques used to detect life on other planets.
  • Rocket-Building & Launching: Design, build, and launch your team’s rocket! Discover how rockets carry technology into space and compete with other teams to achieve the best launch distance and accuracy.
  • Heat Shield Design & Testing: Each team will design and build a heat shield to protect their sample capsule. Put your heat shields through real-life testing to see if they can withstand extreme temperatures—essential for a successful mission return!

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri.
