This camp will have interactive activities, demonstrations, and presentations to introduce campers to a variety of chemistry concepts and experiences. It will be an educational exploration, but it will not be summer school – it will be scientific fun!

Welcome to the exciting world of molecules and reactions! Chemistry is called the “central science” because it touches many other scientific disciplines. From a single atom to the entire cosmos, everything is made of chemicals, you included!

Space is Limited! Early registration is recommended. Campers will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis, based upon date of registration and when payment is received. Waiting lists will be maintained and filled in the order that they were received should cancellations occur.

Camp Activities

This camp not only fosters a love for science but also encourages teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity. Whether aspiring scientists or simply curious minds, campers will leave with a newfound appreciation for the fascinating world of chemistry, sparking a lifelong interest in the sciences. Join S&T for a summer filled with discovery, exploration, and the joy of scientific inquiry! Campers will amaze their friends (and maybe even their teachers) with the things they will do and learn.

Camp activities include:

  • synthesize pleasant-smelling molecules from simple materials
  • see chemistry “happen” with electricity, light, and heat
  • see and learn how things can burn both fast and slow
  • touch base with acids
  • have fun with polymers
  • experience how chemistry on Earth helps us study the chemistry of stars and space
  • solve real-world problems with scientific instruments
  • tour working chemistry labs and meet scientific researchers
  • find out (and experience for yourself!) how chemistry makes ice cream better

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. USA Express provides shuttle service from St. Louis Lambert Airport to Rolla. You can contact USA Express by calling 1-800-872-9399 or visiting their website at https://www.usaxonline.com/. If you are having challenges arranging transportation, please contact the STEM Center for additional assistance.

All camps will have a $50 non-refundable fee. Persons wishing to cancel their registration must do so two weeks (14 full days) prior to the first day of their chosen program. No refunds will be made after this date.

Missouri S&T reserves the right to cancel any program in the event of insufficient registrations, severe weather or natural disaster. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified immediately via email and phone, and all fees will be returned in full.
